AIM

Flourish is a Learning Support and Development Centre dedicated to supporting learners in overcoming their various barriers to learning. We aim to foster their ability to be capable and confident participants both in the classroom, and in the world beyond.                                                                        CURRICULUM

At Flourish our overall aim is for life readiness and the real application of knowledge.

We offer a CAPS aligned curriculum that is student centered and tailored to suit each learner. We make use of the framework provided by the National Curriculum while delivering remedial therapy through Individual Education, Behaviour and Care Plans designed to a meet a child’s specific needs and styles. These are developed with all players in the child’s experience, including (but not limited to) parents, teachers and therapists.

Academically, we focus on identifying and resolving any gaps in their foundational knowledge. Attention is given to core concepts, building confidence and teaching universal learning skills in order to extend them where and when possible.

We value the holistic integration of learning across all areas of a child’s experience rather than merely content. Attention is drawn to the practical application of skills learnt at school and how they must be transferable between real life contexts. This is in order to overlap with, and support, out of school success as an individual in the world. It is our firm belief that, given the right environment and educational approach, children will not only learn, but excel.

Flourish aims to provide a safe, calm and relaxed learning environment where each unique child is developed successfully according to their specific needs. Flourish is a place where we value positive reinforcement and praise, where children want to come to be and learn. We wish to instill confidence in learners, to encourage them to take risks in their learning and to fulfill their dreams. We aspire to have our children successfully integrate into their home and social environment, engage positively with their schooling and display a confident, capable and willing approach to the broader world.

APPROACH

In order to achieve the above mentioned aims, we create a multi-dimensional framework of support. We understand that children exist in context and are holistic in nature; therefore different aspects of the child need to be supported in order to support the learner as a whole. While different facets will be discussed separately below, in practicality they overlap and must be understood as parts of a whole, being developed concurrently.
